What will we cover?

Building your Neurodivergent Identity is a psycho-educational group program that runs over 6 sessions, in small groups of 5-8 people.

Each session focuses on one topic related to the neurodivergent experience and includes a range of fun activities and discussions to help us learn and explore these topics together.

Here's what we'll cover each week:

What is Autism/ADHD?

This week we'll learn all about Autism and/or ADHD (what we talk about depends on who's in the group!) and what it may look like. You'll learn more about your brain and why you do the things you do, and have a chance to compare your experience with others in the group so you can start to understand yourself a little better.

Emotional regulation

We'll talk about about managing big, intense emotions like anger and frustration, the experience of rejection sensitivity dysphoria, and what autistic burnout looks like (and how to recover from it).

Energy accounting

We'll talk a bit about how to manage energy and stress levels to avoid the boom or bust cycle you might be stuck in. We'll look at the executive functioning differences that are common in neurodivergent folk, and of course, we'll also talk about masking this week too!

Communication

This week we'll look more at what ADHD and autistic communication tends to look like, we'll explore the double empathy problem and we'll look at different ways you may be able to communicate that feel authentic to you!

Relationships

This week we'll explore all sorts of relationships - friendships, family, and romantic - what they tend to look like for Autistic and ADHD individuals, and how to navigate them in a way that works for you.

Sensory differences

In our final week together, we're talking all things sensory. We'll look at how the sensory needs of Autistic and ADHD folk tend to differ from those of Neurotypical folk, how to identify your own sensory needs and of course, how to accommodate these needs so you don't feel so overwhelmed by all the things!

Plus, every single group participant receives a 100 page, full colour handbook. Even if you are participating online, you will still receive a printed copy of the handbook that you can work through and use during the group to supplement your learning.

When will the groups run?

The groups will commence in January 2025 and can be run either in-person or online. Times and dates are not yet confirmed and will depend on interest. However at this stage, in-person groups (available for all ages but strongly recommended for children) will likely be in Fairy Meadow or Corrimal on a Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning.

Online groups are available for teens, adults and parents and will likely be run on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday afternoon. All groups will run during school hours at this stage, but there may be an online after hours option offered later in 2025.

If there is interest, I may also run a school holiday group. This group would run for 4 weeks, across 4 x 2hr long sessions during January 2025.

How much does the program cost?

The total cost of the program is $750. This covers 6 x 1.5hr sessions, plus your 100-page program workbook. There is an option to pay in instalments, but the program must be paid for in full prior to the start of the group.
